Outstanding Tiny Desk AI: the song behind the trend
“Outstanding” is the song in every Tiny Desk AI video. The Gap Band released it in 1982 on The Gap Band IV, with Charlie Wilson singing lead. Wilson closed his NPR Tiny Desk Concert with it on 5 June 2023, and the last seconds of that performance, the laugh and the sax solo, became the template for the Outstanding Tiny Desk AI parodies of October 2026 (NPR; Rolling Stone).

How it became the outstanding tiny desk meme
The ending works without context. A veteran singer is clearly having the time of his life in an office full of books, the band leans in, he laughs mid-line and the sax takes over. Swap in anyone who has had a bad week and the contrast is the joke.
The first parody, posted on 18 October 2026 by @theburnerfromhe11, used losing college football coaches. Every version since keeps the song, which is why searches pair “Outstanding” with “Tiny Desk AI”.
Adding “Outstanding” to your video
Videos made here come as two files: one with the trend’s sound added and a silent copy. Buying credits does not license the song, so to post on TikTok, Reels or Shorts, upload the silent copy and add “Outstanding” by The Gap Band or the Charlie Wilson Tiny Desk sound from the app’s sound library: the platform licenses its own sounds.
